How We Are Different
Often we are asked how we differ from other products and companies. Cranial Technologies is unique in that not only do we manufacture the product (DOC Band), we are also the treatment provider. We are responsible for the total care of the infant with plagiocephaly. We hold ourselves accountable for the outcomes achieved in every child. To date, the DOC Band is the only device with clinical studies documenting its safety and effectiveness. CTI began treating plagiocephaly in 1988, before the 1992 "Back to Sleep" campaign started. Other companies, recognizing a new market, are providing products without the experience, training, and knowledge to achieve the proper outcomes. By "reverse engineering" (a commonly used technique for copying a product) others have managed to have their product "look" like a DOC Band, but many fail to measure up. In comparing products it is imperative to research further than it "looks the same." With the DOC Band, Cranial Technologies has set the standard for others to follow. In any medical situation, you need to feel comfortable with the practitioner's expertise and knowledge. Asking questions about training, experience and outcomes is absolutely appropriate when entrusting the care of your child to this individual. Without the proper product, training, and experience, a clinician can easily deform a head rather than correct it. Beware of the individual who doesn't follow your child on a regular basis, or doesn't answer questions to your satisfaction. Every DOC Band is custom made to correct each infant's specific deformity. Our designers/modifiers have over a decade of knowledge and training in craniofacial abnormalities and growth patterns of the cranium. This training and experience is critical in treating plagiocephaly, and it is imperative that these individuals have a clear understanding of cranial anatomy as well as the processes that lead to deformation. Our researchers make regular presentations at national and international medical conferences. We have always been involved in research and are comitted in working with physicians to advance the understanding of plagiocephaly.
