Compliance:
With such a small window of opportunity to correct an infant's head, it is critical that families are fully compliant with the treatment protocol. The best outcome will be achieved when all protocols are followed.
  • A child's head grows consistently. In order to capture and direct all growth, it is essential that the band is worn 23 hours a day, every day.
  • Skin problems, if any, are typically resolved in the first week. If you have any other problems, consult your clinician immediately.
  • Timely growth adjustments are a must. If growth adjustments are delayed, it can negatively impact the head shape.
  • For those infants where neck exercises are necessary, stretching instructions must be followed. In children with neck tightness, the DOC Band alone cannot achieve the best outcome. Children can be left with a less than optimal outcome because parents do not fully comply with the stretching program.
How Quickly Can I See Changes:
  • In children under 5 months of age you should begin to see a change in one week after wearing the band 23 hours a day.
  • In children under 12 months of age you should begin to see a change in two weeks.
  • In children over 12 months of age, you should begin to see a change within two to three weeks.
Age & Severity:

It is important to understand that the final outcome is affected by the following:
  • Age at start of treatment:
The younger an infant, the faster the rate of head growth and subsequent correction of the deformity.
  • Severity of condition:
As with any condition, the more severe the deformity the more difficult the correction. It is essential to get the more severe patient into treatment at a younger age.
  • Compliance with the program:
All treatment protocols must be followed to achieve the optimal outcome, including wearing the band 23 hours a day, regular growth adjustments and neck stretching exercises at least 5 times day, when indicated.
